Farm Grounds & Event Support Attendant

We are seeking a dynamic team player to join our farm family at our farm market! This varied position includes handling the maintenance of the farm market grounds, outdoor displays, event setup and breakdown, minor repairs and maintenance, providing support to our farm market and event staff, driving a box truck for deliveries/pick-ups and more. 

This is a currently a part time, in season position (approximately April through December) – hours will vary, winters off with available unemployment benefits. Often working weekends and being adaptive to various schedules is a must. We offer competitive compensation based on experience. Agriculture Education and Tour Coordinator

Position type: Part-time / Full-Time Seasonal – Late April/Early May through Early-Mid November. 

Description: The Agriculture Education & Tour Coordinator reports to the Event Coordinator and is the primary contact and coordinator for developing, managing and facilitating our agriculturally-focused youth and family programs during out seasonal operations which runs from early-May through early-October.  Responsibilities include planning/development scheduling, coordinating, communications, conducting and overseeing private educational school and group farm tours and educational programming. Other primary responsibilities include providing support for special events and festival weekends as needed. 

Position hours: Hours will vary month-to-month with late-May through June and September thru early-November being peak season. Peak season hours will average 30-35 hours/week with July and August averaging 18-25 hours per week. Additional hours may be available to assist with birthday parties and other events if preferred. A typical day begins around 8am and ends by approximately 2pm depending on the schedule and tours are most often scheduled Monday through Friday. Weekend availability and flexibility are a must, as needed.

Essential Functions include but are not limited to:

  • Reporting to the Event Coordinator and working as a team to create a unique and memorable educational group tour and program experiences for school, camp, homeschool, special needs, civic, and senior groups as well as corporate/business team building, and more.
  • Conduct on-site tours as scheduled in compliance with NJ Core Curriculum Standards – guided hayride farm tours, fruit/veggie produce picking activities, and other farm-related activities.
  • Respond to incoming phone and email group tour inquiries and work directly with teachers, camp directors, and group leaders to plan and implement group tours including all pre- and post-tour communications such as tour-day scheduling, confirmations and follow up.
  • Recruit New Business – reach out to local schools, camps, businesses and more to introduce Donaldson Farm’s agriculture educational programs
  • Coordinate programming logistics with event staff, Donaldson’s Greenhouse and wholesale operations to ensure smooth operations for group tours.
  • Develop/Produce coordinating educational materials and communications
  • Maintain familiarity with school groups, teachers and parents as many tour participants return to the farm year after year – focus on building relationships using an attitude of service.
  • Maintain familiarity with current crop conditions
  • Responsible for invoicing/processing group tour payments
  • Assist in leading Event Staff meetings and updates

Technical Skills

  • Microsoft Office – proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, & PowerPoint
  • Google Suite – proficiency using Google Suite (Sheets, Docs, Calendar) strongly preferred

Parking Attendant – Fall 2020

Part-time, weather permitting, seasonal position
September 28th through October 27th and Columbus Day, October 14th. Saturdays and Sundays 9:00 am – 6:00 pm (approximate)

Experience preferred. Must be 18 or older, personable, comfortable working with and greeting the public Also, must be agreeable to work in all weather conditions.

Hourly wage information will be provided to serious inquiries.

Field Assistant – Fall 2020

Take in the fresh fall air while helping out in the pumpkin field this season! Part-time, weather permitting, seasonal position.
September 28th through October 27th and Columbus Day, October 14th. Saturdays and Sundays
9:00 am – 6:00 pm (approximate)

Must be 18 or older, personable, comfortable working the public and be agreeable to work in all weather conditions.

Duties will include:
Monitoring our Pick-Your-Own Pumpkin and Indian Corn Fields. Assisting farm guests on and off hayrides by setting and removing steps. Assisting farm guests in loading pumpkins on the hay ride wagon. Interact with farm guests to answer questions, provide farm information, etc.

Hourly wage information will be provided to serious inquiries.

Weekend Party Hostess & Event Support – The ideal person for this position will be available to work Friday through Sunday (schedule will vary from week to week) and is a positive-natured, enthusiastic, and creative people-person with attention to deal and a strong focus on customer service. Prior experience working with children as a teacher, camp counselor, or other youth-related experience is a plus. (This position may be combined with the open position of School & Group Tour Staff for applicants who are interested in both weekday and weekend hours.)

Primary Job Responsibilities include (but are not limited to):

  • Set-up and clean-up for birthday parties and private events
  • Hosts birthday parties and leads activities for children.
  • Lead and facilitate children in activities in a safe and fun manner.
  • Good communication and public speaking skills

Agritourism Event Staff – Donaldson Farms hosts thousands of children and adults for private educational farm tours throughout the farming season. The ideal person for this position will enjoy working with kids and young students, be available Monday through Friday from 8am – 3pm to assist with educational school and group tour experiences on the farm, and preferably have an interest in farming. Prior experience working with children as a teacher, camp counselor, or other youth-related experience is a plus. (This position may be combined with the open position of Weekend Party Hostess and Event Staff for applicants who are interested in both weekday and weekend hours.)

Primary Job Responsibilities include (but are not limited to):

  • Set-up and clean-up for group tours
  • Assist in leading groups to pick-your-own areas of the farm and other educational farm activities
  • Lead and facilitate tour participants in activities in a safe and fun manner.
  • Good communication and public speaking skills
