Little Learning Farmers Program

Join us for our Little Learning Farmers Learning Program at Donaldson Farms, offered weekly in on Tuesday mornings, and sometimes Thursdays, June through mid-September. Sign up for one or more. We feature a new craft every Tuesday! Little Learning Farmers is a child-and-adult activity session and is perfect for parents, grandparents, aunts and uncles and their littles to enjoy a fun and educational morning at Donaldson Farms. This program is ideal for pre-school and kindergarten age children.

  • Each week Little Learning Farmers offers a different interesting and fun theme from Ponies & Horses, Strawberry Picking, Strawberry Planting, Tractors & Farm Equipment, Zumbini, Sweet Corn Picking,  Farm Animals, Peach Picking, Open Studio Mixed Media Arts and more.
  • Most Little Learning Farmers sessions include a farm activity, theme-related craft, healthy snack, lemonade, storytime, group sandbox play and often a hayride! If it’s hot we might turn on the water sprinkler to cool off!
  • Times 9:30am – 11:00am – occasionally we offer an afternoon program
  • Prices range from $12.00 – $15 per child for the first participating child (age 2 – 6 years old); $9.00 for each additional sibling (age 2 – 6 years old) – some events may cost more – see event listings for details.
  • Children 1-year-old and under are FREE to attend. *If your child is 1+ and will participate by picking or planting fruit or flowers, riding a pony, or creating a craft then please sign them up as a ‘participating child at registration.’
  • Craft or activity may be substituted due to inclement weather or crop conditions.
  • When fruit picking is the featured activity, accompanying adult may purchase a container (pint, quart or flat) in our farm market and pay by the pound for the berries they pick.
  • Children must have adult supervision at all times. Thank you for understanding that this is is not a ‘drop-off event.’ 
  • Please dress for the weather. Sunblock, closed-toed shoes that can get dirty and a sunhat are always a good idea.
  • Events are rain or shine.
  • Registration and payment are required prior to the event. No walk-ins, please!

2019 Program Schedule:

  • Tuesday, June 4th – Strawberry Planting 9:30-11:30am – Enjoy planting a strawberry plant in a 4″ pot, hayride and a strawberry-themed craft with your little farmer or gardener! Plant care instructions will be provided to help your child grow strawberries at home. A strawberry-themed craft and snack are included. 
  • Tuesday, June 11th – Strawberry Picking 3:30-5:30 *(after school) There’s nothing like biting into a freshly-picked strawberry. Together, you and your little farmer will pick a pint of juicy red strawberries and enjoy a strawberry-themed craft. Note: Accompanying adults who wish to pick additional strawberries may purchase a container (pint, quart or flat) in our farm market and pay by the pound for the berries they pick. (Strawberry picking is crop condition permitting)
  • Tuesday, June 18th – Strawberry Picking 9:30-11:30am – There’s nothing like biting into a freshly-picked strawberry. Together, you and your little farmer will pick a pint of juicy red strawberries and enjoy a strawberry-themed craft and a snack is included.   • Tuesday, June 25th – Tractors & Farm Equipment 9:30-11:30am- Touch a tractor! Big tractors and farm equipment are always a big hit with little farmers. Enjoy a guided hayride farm tour and we’ll stop at our equipment area to see the big machines Don’t forget your camera – your little farmer will have a chance to touch a big tractor – maybe two! A tractor-themed craft and snack are included.
  • Tuesday, July 9th – Pony Rides – Your little farmer(s) will enjoy a pony ride with Sunny, hayride farm tour, and horse/pony-themed craft. Bring your camera to capture this very special opportunity. Note: Our pony sessions are very popular and typically sell out quickly!
  • Tuesday, July 16th – Zumbini, Move & Grove! 9:30-11:30am – New! Move and groove with your little! Zumbini is a fun-filled music and movement program that includes original music, lots of giggling, wiggling, singing, and instrument play for children and their caregiver. Zumbini is a music and movement program created by Zumba and BabyFirst and will be led by Amy Mayer, a certified Zumbini instructor.   • Tuesday, July 23rd – Sweet Corn Picking 9:30-11:30 – Pick 4 ears of the best sweet corn in all the land with your little farmer or gardener! Enjoy this special opportunity to take a hayride to the cornfield for sweet corn picking and enjoy a corn-themed craft and snack with your little.
  • Thursday, July 25th – Dolphins Don’t Eat Donuts Storytime and Fruit & Veggie tasting with author, Julianne Stokes 9:30 – 11:00 am. “Learning from our animal friends might be kind of handy.” Explore what animals do and do not eat in this fun and fresh children’s picture book. Julianne Stokes is the author and illustrator of ABC Healthy and Dolphins Don’t Eat Donuts. She believes in living a healthy lifestyle and is looking to encourage parents and children to make healthy choices.

  • Thursday, August 22th – Barnyard Animals 9:30-11:30am – New! Little farmers love farm animals! Spend the morning on the farm interacting our pony Sunny, resident miniature goats Luke Skywalker & Princess Leia, chickens, banties, and bunnies. A farm animal-themed craft, snack, and hayride are included. Bring your camera – there’s sure to be wonderful photo opportunities with your little and the farm animals.
  • Tuesday, August 27th – Pick a Peach! 9:30-11:30am – Nothing says summer like sweet and juicy peaches! Enjoy this special opportunity to pick peaches with your little farmer(s). We’ll take a hayride to the peach orchard where each child will pick 3 peaches from our trees. A peach-themed craft is included.
  • Tuesday, September 3rd – Farm Crafts – Mixed Media Open Studio 9:300-11:30am – Bring your little artist to the farm for an open art studio session. Choose from a variety of farm-themed craft projects that we’ve prepared for you or select your materials and enjoy creating an original work of art with your little. A hayride farm tour and snack is included.

Registration for Little Learning Farmers is required. Spots are limited and are available on a first come, first serve basis. Your registration must be paid in advance of the event.
